We are the technical arm of the state Government

To build a well planned, integrated and sustainable road network.

The Ministry of Works is the technical arm of the State Government responsible for the conception, formulation of policies and implementation of road projects and other civil engineering works in line with the STRONGER DELTA agenda of His Excellency, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa.

  • MISSION STATEMENT: To build a well planned, integrated and sustainable road network with effective inter-modal linkages to facilitate socio-economic transformation and development in line with the STRONGER DELTA agenda of His Excellency, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa.
  • CHALLENGES: • Road construction is Capital-intensive and more so in the face of other competing needs of Government • Additional high cost of constructing roads in the swampy and erosion-prone parts of the state • Unpredictable weather for civil works resulting in very short working season • Attracting alternative sources of funding for road construction.
  • RESPONSIBILITIES AND FUNCTIONS: All public Works including; • Construction and maintenance of State Government Roads, Bridges and Drains • Airport Development • Explosives • Construction and Maintenance of Sewerage and Drainage Channels • Consultancy and Supervision of Civil Engineering projects of other MDAs • Liaising with Federal Government and MDAs on Civil Engineering and other related matters.
